Bad news for Super Mario Maker players. The title will be removed from the Wii U eShop on January 13 2021, and the online services will shut down on March 31 2021, after five and a half years of service.

The services that will end are:

  • The ability to upload courses in Super Mario Maker for Wii U.
  • The Super Mario Maker Bookmark website. Due to this, the following features within the software’s Course World will also become unavailable:
    • Updating the ranking of liked courses
    • Looking up your bookmarked courses
An error message will be displayed when trying to access these discontinued services after their end date.

Super Mario Maker is a side scrolling platformer and game creation system developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. It was released worldwide in September 2015. In the game, players are able to create and play their own custom courses, based on previous side scrolling Mario games, share them online, and play courses made by other players.
